The British Columbia general election is on Saturday, October 19, and there’s a lot riding on it. The Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) is a fiercely independent and democratic organization, where the rank-and-file membership make the decisions for the leadership to carry out. It’s not that different from politics in BC.
We have the right to vote in a democratic country like Canada, and we should use it. Workers in BC have the power in their hands to determine the future of our province, and it’s an enormous responsibility we should not take lightly. Billions of people around the world do not have the kind of freedoms and rights that Canadians enjoy every single day.
And just like in the previous elections, the Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU), of which the PPWC is a member, has organized a political education campaign to help workers make informed voting choices for the BC election on Saturday. The CCU sent eleven questions to all three major parties in BC, and so far, we’ve received answers from the New Democratic Party, and we’re eagerly waiting to hear from the Green Party and the Conservative Party.
I urge you to read them carefully and vote on Saturday to determine the best possible future for workers in the province. Our lives depends on it.
Exercise your right to vote, because democracy matters in the PPWC – and the province of British Columbia.
