As the year draws to a close and the holiday season arrives, the Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) and Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) extends warm wishes to all our members—and to working people across Canada—for a happy, restful, and joyful holiday season.
This time of year reminds us why unions matter. The ability to spend meaningful time with family, friends, and loved ones did not come by chance. Paid holidays, longer vacations, stat holidays, and the right to take time away from work without fear of reprisal are victories won through collective action. They were secured because generations of workers stood together, organized, and demanded fairness, dignity, and balance between work and life. Every holiday meal, every winter break, and every moment of rest reflects those hard-fought gains.
Unions have always understood a simple truth: workers deserve not only fair wages, but time to live full lives. Time to rest. Time to celebrate. Time to care for one another. These rights are foundational to healthy families, strong communities, and a fair economy.
As we celebrate this season, we also look ahead with hope and determination. Working people continue to face rising costs, economic uncertainty, and pressures on public services. Yet history shows us that when workers stand together, progress follows. Through solidarity, organizing, and collective bargaining, unions will continue to push for better jobs, safer workplaces, stronger public services, and a more just and inclusive Canada.
The holiday season is about generosity, compassion, and community—values that are at the very heart of the labour movement. In the coming year, unions and workers will continue to build a better world: one rooted in fairness, equality, sustainability, and respect for all who labour.
To every worker who keeps our country running, and to every union member who strengthens our collective voice, thank you for your commitment and resilience. May this holiday season bring you rest, laughter, and renewed energy for the work ahead.
