Dear Mr. Singh,
The Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) is writing to express our support for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and strongly disagree and oppose the Federal Minister of Labour Steven Mackinnon’s decision on binding arbitration in the labour dispute at the British Columbia and Quebec ports. This decision undermines ILWU workers’ rights and the collective bargaining process.
The PPWC was very happy to see the NDP and you personally support the collective bargaining process. Thank you. We also agree that the Federal Government should not interfere with this process, as you said, “this is about workers’ rights” and “workers getting their fair share.”
The PPWC is happy to see the ILWU oppose this decision and advocate for the preservation of collective bargaining rights, ensuring that workers’ voices are heard and their needs are met. The government has no place in collective bargaining.
The Public and Private Workers of Canada and the NDP both have shared values in advocating for workers’ rights. The PPWC in British Columbia has collaborated with the NDP on many initiatives aimed at improving labour law, the forest industry, fair wages and promoting progressive labour change in Canada protecting workers and giving them an opportunity to earn a living wage.
Both the PPWC and NDP engage in grassroots efforts to raise awareness and mobilize support for labour related issues, strengthening our collective impact in the political arena and commitment to advancing the interest of Canada workers.
