Dear Friends,
It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the tragic death of one of our union brothers at the Crofton mill. On behalf of the entire membership of the Public and Private Workers of Canada, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, coworkers and loved ones of the deceased. This is a devastating loss, not only for those who knew him personally, but for all of us in the PPWC family.
There are no words that can fully capture the grief we feel when this happens to a fellow worker. It is a stark and heartbreaking reminder that the fight for strong health and safety protections on the job is far from over. We will be supporting the Local 2 leadership, the employer, and relevant authorities to understand what happened and ensure that every possible step is taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
To all PPWC members affected by this loss, please know that you are never alone. We encourage you to reach out for support. The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is made available to all members and their families who are struggling in the wake of this tragedy. Do not hesitate to use these vital services — your mental health and well-being matter deeply.
