The Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) strongly oppose Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on Canadian goods, which we believe will have devastating consequences for Canadian workers, families, and communities.

For Canadian workers, these tariffs translate to job losses, reduced hours, and financial insecurity. Industries such as forestry and manufacturing, already grappling with global competition and environmental challenges, cannot absorb additional barriers without serious repercussions. Families in small towns and rural communities will feel the impact the most, as many of these industries are the backbone of their local economies.

Moreover, these tariffs will likely provoke retaliatory measures from Canada, setting off a trade war that will harm workers in both countries. Instead of building walls between our economies, we need collaborative solutions that protect jobs, advance environmental sustainability, and ensure fair trade practices.
