The Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) is proud to continue our long-standing tradition of supporting the children of our members as they pursue post-secondary education. Education is one of the most powerful tools we can offer to the next generation, and through our bursaries, we help ensure that the daughters and sons of PPWC members can achieve their academic and career goals. This fall, there are two important sets of bursary deadlines approaching, and we encourage all eligible families to apply.
Apply for CCU John St Amand / Madeline Parent Annual Bursaries – Deadline October 10, 2025
The Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU), of which PPWC is a proud affiliate, offers the John St Amand and Madeline Parent Annual Bursaries. These awards honour two outstanding Canadian trade unionists who dedicated their lives to defending workers’ rights and building stronger unions. Their legacy lives on through these bursaries, which are open to the children of members across all CCU-affiliated unions.
Applications for the CCU bursaries must be submitted by October 10, 2025. These bursaries provide valuable financial assistance to help cover the rising costs of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses. By applying, PPWC families have the opportunity to benefit from the broader solidarity of the Canadian labour movement.
Apply for PPWC Orville Braaten and Angus Macphee Memorial Bursaries – Deadline November 1, 2025 (scroll down a bit on page)
In addition to the CCU bursaries, PPWC also proudly offers its own awards: the Orville Braaten Memorial Bursary and the Angus Macphee Memorial Bursary. These bursaries commemorate two of our own, dedicated PPWC founders who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of working people and strengthen our union.
The application deadline for these bursaries is November 1, 2025. These awards are reserved exclusively for the children of PPWC members, reflecting our union’s deep commitment to helping families directly. They represent not only financial assistance but also our union’s collective investment in the bright futures of our children.
Why These Bursaries Matter
Post-secondary education is more important than ever, but it is also more expensive than ever. Whether students are attending university, college, or technical programs, costs can quickly add up. Bursaries like these can ease the financial burden, allowing students to focus on their studies and build the future they envision.
